                  Modem methods of rooftop rainwater harvesting: (i) Rooftop rainwater is collected using a PVC pipe. (ii) The water is filtered using sand and bricks. (iii) An underground tank is build to fill this water at the time of rains. (iv) Underground pipe takes water to sump for immediate usage. (v) Excess water from the sump is taken to the well. (vi) Water from the well recharges the underground water. (vii)Later, water can be withdrawn either from the well or from a hand pump device. For example, rooftop rainwater harvesting is the most common practice in Shillong, Meghalaya. Though this region receives the highest rainfall in the world, yet the state capital, Shillong faces acute shortage of water. Nearly every household in the city has a rooftop rainwater harvesting structure.
