12th Class Physics Electrostatics & Capacitance

  • question_answer 11)
A 600 pF capacitor is charged by a 200 V supply. It is then disconnected from the supply and is connected to another uncharged 600 pF capacitor. How much electrostatic energy is lost in the process?

    Answer:

= 12 × 10?6J.                 When connected to another capacitor of same capacity the voltage will be equally shared i.e. halved, but the capacitance will be doubled, so the energy is halved.                  Energy lost = 6 x 10?6 J.
