You have read ‘Adventure’ by jayant Narlikar in Hornbill in Class 11. Compare the interweaving of fantasy and reality in the two stories.

    Answer:

'The Third Level' is a story about time travel. Time travel is the concept of moving backwards Or forwards to different points in time, in a manner analogous to moving through space. This is what happens first with Charley and then with Sam. While Charley discovers it accidentally, for Sam it is planned. He had bought $800 worth of old-style currency before going there. Also, it was possible to reach there and return.   On the other hand, Jayant Narlikar explored the mathematical implications of fields in cosmology. The Adventure' is based on the theory of quantum electrodynamics. This story is a Herculean effort dealing with the theory of physics that states the movement of electrically charged particles at various levels. 'Adventure' suggests the possibility of travel between parallel realities or universes. Here the situation is not within human control. The random movement of the electrons leads to the situation. It is grounded in scientific fact with some speculation on what is unproven.
