When the ironmaster saw the stranger after he was truly clean and well dressed, he realized his mistake. The valet had bathed him, cut his hair and shaved him. He was wearing clothes that belonged to the ironmaster. The ironmaster looked and frowned as he realized that at the furnace in a dim light he might have made a mistake, but that now, when the stranger stood there in broad daylight, it was impossible to mistake him for an old acquaintance.
