In which food would you find lactic acid bacteria? Mention some of their useful applications.

    Answer:

    (i) Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are commonly found in milk and under suitable condition, these multiply and produce acids which coagulate and partially digest the milk proteins and change the milk into curd. (ii) LAB are also found in the human stomach where these prevent the growth of certain disease-causing microbes.
