Why does a child feel more pain when she falls down oil a hard cement floor, than when she falls oil the soft muddy ground in the garden?

    Answer:

When the child falls on the soft muddy ground, the ground yields (gets depressed) under her weight. As a result of this, she is brought to rest after a comparatively longer time than we she falls down on a hard cement floor where she is brought to rest suddenly. Since the change in momentum (which is equal to the impulse, Ft) in both the cases is the same, the force acting on the child falling down on hard cement (when \[t\] is less) is more than when she falls on the muddy ground.
