11th Class Chemistry The p-Block Elements-I

  • question_answer 31) Explain why there is a phenomenal decrease in ionisation enthalpy from carbon to silicon?

    Answer:

The atomic radius and screening effect of the intervening electrons in silicon atom are higher in comparison to carbon. Thus, the force of attraction of nucleus for the valence electrons in silicon considerably decreases. As a result, there is phenomenal decrease in ionisation energy from carbon to silicon.
