The Keplers second law states that the straight line joining the planet to the sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times. The statement is equivalent to saying that

    A)  total acceleration is zero

    B)  transverse acceleration is zero

    C)  longitudinal acceleration is zero

    D)  radial acceleration is zero

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

With the help of Keplers second law, it can also be proved that the angular momentum of a planet revolving around the sun remains constant. ie. Angular momentum (L) = constant ie, \[\frac{dL}{dt}=0\] or \[\frac{d}{dt}(I\omega )=0\] or \[\frac{Id\omega }{dt}=0\] or \[I\alpha =0\] where,\[\alpha =\frac{d\omega }{dt}=\]longitudinal acceleration \[\alpha =0\] \[(\because I\ne 0)\] Hence, longitudinal acceleration of a planet is zero.
