Which of the following was formed in S. Millers experiment?

    A)  Amino acids

    B)  Nucleic acids

    C)  UV radiations

    D)  Microspheres

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Origin of life on primitive earth occurs through chemical evolution from non-living substances. Theory of chemical evolution was given by Oparin and experimentally explained by Stanley Miller and Urey. They put a mixture of ammonia, hydrogen and methane in an electric chamber connected with an inlet for water steam. The products are collected in a U-tube. After testing the liquid it was found that a mixture of amino acid like glycine, alanine, aspartic acid are formed. UV radiation was also used as an energy source in place of electric source by some scientist to prove origin of life through chemical evolution. Nucleic acids are macromolecules which have power of self-replication like DNA. Microspheres: They are small spheroidal biochemical aggregates with a covering membrane. These are composed of organic material like protein.
