During transcription, the DNA site at which RNA polymerase binds is called

    A)  promoter

    B)  regulator

    C)  receptor

    D)  enhancer

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Transcription is one of the two major steps of protein synthesis, which involve the transfer of genetic information from DNA to mRNA. During transcription, the DNA site at which RNA polymerase binds is called promoter. Promoter is the site for intiation of transcription. Upstreams (before start point) or downstream (after start point) to the start point of a transcription unit, there is always a DNA sequence, which is necessary for the transcription to start. This is called a promoter region. The binding site of RNA polymerase enzyme lie within the promoter sequence.
