If two balls, each of mass 0.06 kg moving in opposite direction with speed 4 m/s, collide and rebound with the same speed then impulse imarted to each   ball become of other will be :

    A)  0.48 kg m/s

    B)  0.21 kg m/s

    C)  9.12 kg m/s

    D)  none of these

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Here: Mass of each ball \[m=0.06\text{ }kg\] Initial speed     \[u=4\text{ }m/s\] final speed      \[v=-4\text{ }m/s\] (minus sign implicated due to rebounce) Initial momentum of each ball before Collision is \[\mu =0.06\times 4\] \[=0.24\text{ }kg\text{ }m/s\] final momentum of each ball after collision is \[m\upsilon =0.06\times (-4)\] \[=-0.24\text{ }kg\text{ }m/sec\] Hence, the change in momentum is Initial momentum\[-\] final momentum \[=0.24-(-0.24)\] \[=0.48\text{ }kg\text{ }m/sec\]
