A student multiplied a number by \[\frac{5}{8}\]instead of\[\frac{8}{5}\]. What is the percentage error in the calculation?

    A)  60.94 per cent

    B)  156 per cent

    C)  30.47 per cent

    D)  78 per cent

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     Let the number be\[x\] Correct product \[=\frac{8x}{5}\] Incorrect product \[=\frac{5x}{8}\] Error \[\frac{8x}{5}-\frac{5x}{8}\] \[\frac{64x-25x}{40}=\frac{39x}{40}\] \[\therefore \]Percentage error \[=\left( \frac{\frac{39x}{40}}{\frac{8x}{5}} \right)\times 100\] \[=\frac{39x}{40}\times \frac{5}{8x}\times 100\approx 60.94%\]
