Two students appeared for an examination. One of them secured 13 marks more than the other and his marks were 76% of the sum of their marks. The marks obtained by them are

    A)  19 and 6

    B)       34 and 21

    C)  102 and 89

    D)  92 and 79

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     Marks obtained by the first student \[=x\] \[\therefore \]Marks obtained by the second student \[=x+13\] According to the question, \[x+13=(x+x+13)\times \frac{76}{100}\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[x+13=(2x+13)\frac{19}{25}\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[25x+325=38x+247\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[38x-25x=325-247\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[13x=78\] \[\Rightarrow \]\[x=\frac{78}{13}=6\] \[\therefore \]Marks obtained by the second student \[=13+6=19\]
