A student multiplied a number by \[\frac{4}{5}\] instead of\[\frac{5}{4}\]. What is the percentage error in the calculation?

    A)  56.25 percent

    B)  18 percent

    C)  28.13 percent

    D)  36 percent

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

     Correct product \[=\frac{5x}{4}\] Where number \[=x\] Incorrect product \[=\frac{4x}{5}\] Error \[=\frac{5x}{4}-\frac{4x}{5}\] \[=\frac{25x-16}{20}=\frac{9x}{20}\] \[\therefore \]Error per cent \[\frac{\frac{9x}{20}}{\frac{5x}{4}}\times 100\] \[=\frac{9x}{20}\times \frac{4}{5x}\times 100=36%\]
