Why did Mahatma Gandhiji decide to launch a nationwide satyagraha against the proposed Rowlatt Act? Explain any three reasons.

    Answer:

March 1919, the government passed the Rowlatt Act. This Act was authorised by the government to imprison a person without trial and conviction. The Act, thus, severely curtailed the civil liberties of Indians in the name of curbing terrorist violence.
Rowlatt Act was an openly undemocratic measure taken by the British government. It sanctioned the detention of India political leaders without any trial for a period upto three years.
The law was passed in an autocratic fashion without considering the opinion of the Indian populace which was going to be affected by it.
