Explain Emotional Intelligence. State any two characteristics of emotionally intelligent persons.

    Answer:

Emotional intelligence is a set of skills that underline accurate appraisal, expression and regulation of emotions.
The ability to express and control our emotions is essential, but so is our ability to understand, interpret and respond to the emotions of others. Imagine a world where you could not understand when a friend was feeling sad or when a co-worker was angry. Psychologists refer to this ability as emotional intelligence and some experts even suggest that it can be more important than IQ. Peter Salovey and John D. Mayor have been the leading researchers on emotional intelligence.
The following are characteristics of emotionally intelligent persons:
    (i) Perceive and be sensitive to his feelings and emotions.
(ii) Perceive and be sensitive to various types of emotions in others by noting their body language, voice and tone and facial expressions.
(iii) Related her/his emotions to her/his thoughts so that she/he take them into account while solving problems and taking decisions.
(iv) Understand the powerful influence of the nature and intensity of her/his emotions.
    (v) Control and regulate her/his emotions and their expressions while dealing with self and others to achieve harmony and peace.
