    Answer:

    Coalition government means combination of different political parties, regional parties or parties with different ideologies. Coalition government proved to be boon for democracy in India in the following ways:
    (1) First coalition government was formed under the leadership of Morarji Desai, immediately just after emergency, election held in 1977. Entire opposition got united to defeat Indira Gandhi. But, all political parties had their own ideology and interest, hence this coalition did not succeed.
    (2) The alliance politics started in real ways from 1991 onward. UPA (United Parties Alliance or United Front) and NDA (National Front) emerged wherein parties including regional parties supported either UPA or NDA. Thus, with the election of 1989, a long phase of coalition politics started in India.
    (3) Coalition politics shifted the focus from ideological differences to power sharing arrangement and the. Parties made minimum efforts to implement it.
