Answer:

On the night of 25 June, 1975 international emergency was declared by the President of India.
Weakness of Democracy:
(1) Many observers feel that our country ceased to be democratic in the duration of emergency.
(2) The government made extensive use of preventive detention. The government made large-scale arrests during the emergency.
(3) Internal emergency brought out some ambiguities regarding the emergency provisions in the Constitution that have been rectified since strengths of India?s democracy:
(a) Indian citizens were well aware of the value of civil liberties. After emergency, many civil liberty organizations came up.
(b) Indian Judiciary in the real strengths has played a very important role in protecting the civil liberties of the people.
(c) Indian masses have full faith in democracy. Though many observers think that India ceased to be democratic during emergency, it is important to note that normal democratic functioning resumed within a short span of time. It is very difficult to do away with democracy in India.
