    Define the term 'mixed farming'. Explain any four characteristics of mixed farming practiced in the world.

    Answer:

    Mixed farming is an. agrarian system that mixes arable farming with the raising of livestock. When on a farm along with crop production, some other agriculture based practices like poultry, dairy" farming or bee keeping ere, are adopted, and then this system of farming is known as mixed farming. It is dominant system in Europe, where most farms have a mixture of fields and pastures. Some characteristics are:
    (i) It offers highest return on farm business, as the by-products of farm are properly utilized.
    (ii) It provides work throughout year.
    (iii) Efficient utilization of land, labour, equipment and other resources.
    (iv) The crop by products such as straw, forage, redder etc. is used for feeding of livestock and m re mm they provide milk and other products.
