How is Godfrey Cass different from his younger brother Dunstan?

Answer:

Godfrey Cass is the eldest son of Cass and elder brother of Dunstan. He is good-natured but selfish and weak-willed. He knows what is right but is not willing to pay the price for obeying his conscience. He allows Dunstan, his younger brother, to talk him into a secret marriage with Molly. Later he feels trapped because of his goodness. He feels guilty when he is unable to give back the tenant?s money to his father, which was taken as a loan by his brother.             He lacks courage to own up to his mistakes before his father.             Unlike Godfrey, Dunstan is a spoilt child. He is cruel, cunning, greedy and unpleasant. He troubles his brother, and steals Godfrey?s money and dies a pathetic death.

Griffin has a misdirected and self-serving disposition. He is very ambitious as a scientist and does not disclose the details of his research even to his guide. He is extremely selfish in his pursuit of knowledge and wants to use it to achieve wrong ends i.e., to unleash a reign of terror.  When he does not get his way, he becomes callous.             He even kills his own father, burns the house in Great Portland Street and hits and abuses everyone who comes in his path. He even sends a letter threatening Dr. Kemp who betrayed him.             In the end, he realises that his whole life becomes an exercise in futility. He is a scientist who misuses the advantages of science for his personal gains. He does not use the power of science for the benefit of humanity. The way he committed the brutal acts one after the other, proves his unbridled ambition which led him to self-perdition.
