    Answer:

    Mr. Cuss is a general practitioner. Intrigued by the tales of a bandaged shanger staying at the inn he plans to meet him under the pretext of asking for a donation for the 'Nurses Fund' He asked Griffin some unsual questions regarding his appearance. This made the stranger furious and he hit Mr. Cuss strongly on the nose with an invisible hand. Cuss left in terror quite confused and feeling humiliated. He then went to meet Bunting, the vicar and narrated his terrible encounter with Griffin. There was a cry of surprise, a stirring of feet, and a chair flung aside, a bank of laugther, quick steps to the door. Cuss came out of the room with a pale face and bulging eyes. He was in such a hurry that he left the door open behind him. After being humilated by Griffen, he does not brood alone but goes to Vicer and tells him everything.

    Silas Marner came to Raveloe fifteen years ago. Before coming to Raveloe, he lived in a town to the north, named Lantern Yard. Silas Marner of Lantern yard was absolutely different from The Silas Marner of Raveloe as he was a religious man with many friends. Silas had a best friend named William Dane. Silas had knowledge of curing diseases with the help of herbs, which was taught to him by his mother.             Silas was watching over the Senior Deacon, who died and he was also accused by the church members of stealing a bag full of the church s money. Sara, the girl who Silas got engaged to, broke off with him. With all the happenings going against him, Silas lost his faith in God and humanity. He left lantern yard and went to Raveloe as a man completely opposite of what he used to be.
