    The ratio of incomes of A and B is 5:3 and that of their expenditure is 9 : 5. If they save Rs. 2600 and Rs. 1800 respectively, then their incomes are?

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Let the incomes of A and B be Rs. 5x and Rs. 3x respectively, and their expenditures be Rs. 9y and Rs. 5y, Then \[5x-9y=2600\] and                               \[3x-5y=1800\] \[\therefore \]                              \[\frac{\begin{align}   & 25x-45y=13000 \\  & 27x-45y=16200 \\ \end{align}}{\begin{align}   & -2x=-3200 \\  & x=1600 \\ \end{align}}\] Then, their incomes are Rs. 8000, Rs. 4800.
