The perimeter of a rectangle and a square are 160 m each. The area of the rectangle is less than that of the square by 100 sq. metres. The length of the rectangle is?

    A) 30 m

    B) 40 m

    C) 50 m

    D) 60 m

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Suppose the length and breadth of rectangle is l and b respectively. and   side of a square = a m Then,   \[4a=160\] \[a=40\] And      \[2\,\,(l+b)=160\] \[l+b=80\]                     ?.. (1) Now,     \[l\times b+100={{a}^{2}}\] \[l\times b+100=1600\] \[l\times b=1500\]                       ?? (2) On solving eqn. (1) and (2) = 50 m and b = 30 m Hence, the length of the rectangle is 50 m.
