  • question_answer
A pipe discharging at 10 L/s can fill a tank in two hours. If the tank has a hole at mid-height which leaks at 5 L/s, how long will it take to fill the tank?

    A) 2.5 Hours

    B) 3 Hours

    C) 3.5 Hours

    D) 4 Hours

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    A pipe discharging 10 litre/sec.can fill a mild-height tank in 1 hour. Now, capacity of a tank \[=2\times 60\times 60\times 10\,\,litre\] \[=72000\,\,litre\] Then, remaing half tank of capacity 36000 litre will fill in \[\frac{36000}{(10-5)\times 60\times 60}=\frac{36000}{5\times 60\times 60}\] \[=2\,\,hour\] Hence,  required total time=1+2 =3 hours
