    30. A man takes 3 hours 45 minutes to row a boat 15 km downstream of a river and 2 hours 30 minutes to cover a distance of 5 km upstream. Find the speed of the river current in km/hr.

    Solution :

    Let the speed of the river current = y km/hr. and the speed of the boat                   = x km/hr. According to question? \[x+y=\frac{15}{15/4}=4\]        ? (1) \[x+y=4\]       \[x-y=\frac{5}{5/2}=2\] ? (2) \[x-y=2\] On solving equaitons (1) and (2) \[x=3\,\,km/hr\] \[y=1\,\,km/hr\] Hence, the speed of the river current is 1 km/hr.
