RAJASTHAN PMT Rajasthan - PMT Solved Paper-2009

  • question_answer
For a reaction of the type \[A+B\to \] products, it is observed that doubling the concentration of \[A\] causes the reaction rate to be four times as great, but doubling the amount of \[B\] does not affect the rate. The rate equation is

    A) \[Rate=k[A][B]\]

    B) \[Rate=k{{[A]}^{2}}\]

    C)        \[Rate=k{{[A]}^{2}}[B]\]

    D)        \[Rate=k{{[A]}^{2}}[B]\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

On doubling the concentration of \[A\] causes the reaction rate to be four times as great so order with respect to reactant \[A\] is 2. While doubling the amount of \[B\] doesnt affects the rate so the order with respect to reactant \[B\] is zero. \[\therefore \]Rate of reaction\[=k{{[A]}^{2}}\]
