Regarding a semi-conductor which one of the following is wrong?

    A)  There are no free electrons at 0 K

    B)  There are no free electrons at room temperature

    C)  The number of free electrons increases with rise of temperature

    D)  The charge carriers are electrons and holes.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    M. In semiconductor, no covalent bond breaks at 0 K, so, no electron is free at 0 1 K. At room temperature some covalent bonds break, so, some electrons and holes become free. More covalent bonds break at high temperature and so, number of free electrons increases at high temperature.
