  • question_answer
A man draws a card from a pack of 52 playing cards, replace it and shuffles the pack. He continues this processes until he gets a card of spade. The probability that he will fail the first two times, is

    A)  \[\frac{9}{64}\]

    B)  \[\frac{1}{64}\]

    C)  \[\frac{1}{16}\]

    D)  \[\frac{9}{16}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

     Probability of getting a spade, \[=\frac{^{13}{{C}_{1}}}{^{52}{{C}_{1}}}=\frac{13}{52}=\frac{1}{4}\] Probability of not getting a spade \[=1-\frac{1}{4}=\frac{3}{4}\] Hence, required probability \[=\left( \frac{3}{4} \right)\left( \frac{3}{4} \right)=\frac{9}{16}\]
