RAJASTHAN PET Rajasthan PET Solved Paper-2001

  • question_answer
Probabilities to solve a problem by three students A, B and C are 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4, then the probability that the problem will be solved, is

    A)  1/2

    B)  1/4

    C)  3/4

    D)  2/3

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

     Given, \[P(A)=\frac{1}{2},P(B)=\frac{1}{3},P(C)=\frac{1}{4}\] \[\therefore \] \[P(\overline{A})=1-\frac{1}{2}=\frac{1}{2}\] \[P(\overline{B})=1-\frac{1}{3}=\frac{2}{3}\] and \[P(\overline{C})=1-\frac{1}{4}=\frac{3}{4}\] Probability, that problem is not solved \[=P(\overline{A}).P(\overline{B}).P(\overline{C})\] \[=\frac{1}{2}\times \frac{2}{3}\times \frac{3}{4}\] \[=\frac{1}{4}\] \[\therefore \]Probability that the problem will be solved = 1 - (Probability that the problem's is not solved) \[=1-\frac{1}{4}\] \[=\frac{3}{4}\]
