In aerobic respiration, citric acid cycle takes place in

    A)  cytosol

    B)  mitochondria

    C)  peroxisomes

    D)  endoplasmic reticulum

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Krebs cycle is also known as citric acid cycle (first compound of Krebs cycle) or Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle (TCA). This cycle takes place in the matrix of mitochondria because all necessary enzymes are found in the matrix of mitochondria. In the first reaction of Krebs cycle, one molecule of acetyl Co-A reacts with each of oxaloacetic acid and water molecule in the presence of enzyme citrate synthatase and citric acid and Co-A are end products.
