Punjab Medical Punjab - MET Solved Paper-2005

  • question_answer
A bullet of mass \[0.1\,\,kg\] is fired with a speed of\[100\,\,m/s\]. The mass of gun being\[50\,\,kg\]. Then the velocity of recoil become

    A) \[0.05m/s\]

    B) \[0.5m/s\]

    C) \[0.1m/s\]

    D) \[0.2m/s\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

From law of conservation of momentum total initial momentum                                             = total final momentum                 \[{{m}_{1}}{{u}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{u}_{2}}={{m}_{1}}{{v}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{v}_{2}}\]                 \[0.1\times 0+50\times 0=0.1\times 100+50(-{{v}_{2}})\]                 \[=0-50{{v}_{2}}\]                 \[{{v}_{2}}=\frac{10}{50}=0.2m/s\]
