  • question_answer
Two wires have resistances \[R\] and \[2R\]. When both are joining in series and in parallel then ratio of heats generated in these situations on applying the same voltage, is:

    A) \[2:1\]

    B) \[1:2\]

    C) \[2:9\]

    D) \[9:2\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    In series,                 \[{{R}_{S}}=R+2R=3R\] In parallel,\[{{R}_{p}}=\frac{R\times 2R}{R+2R}\]                                 \[=\frac{2{{R}^{2}}}{3R}\]                                 \[=\frac{2}{3}R\] Ratio of heat produced                                 \[\frac{{{H}_{s}}}{{{H}_{p}}}=\frac{{{R}_{p}}}{{{R}_{s}}}\]                                 \[=\frac{\frac{2}{3}R}{3R}=\frac{2}{9}\]                                 \[{{H}_{s}}:{{H}_{p}}=2:9\]
