  • question_answer
A wave is represented by the equation \[y=a\sin \,\,(0.01x-2t)\] where \[a\] and \[x\] are in \[cm\], velocity of propagation is:

    A) \[200\,\,cm/s\]

    B) \[100\,\,cm/s\]

    C) \[50\,\,cm/s\]

    D) \[10\,\,cm/s\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Given equation is                 \[y=a\sin (0.01x-2t)\]                     ... (1) The standard equation is                 \[y=a\sin (kx-\omega t)\]                            ... (2) Comparing equations (1) and (2), we get                 \[k=0.01\]and\[\omega =2\] From the formula, velocity is                 \[v=\frac{\omega }{k}=\frac{2}{0.01}=200\,\,m/s\]
