Punjab Medical Punjab - MET Solved Paper-2003

  • question_answer
A particle of mass \[m\] moving with velocity \[v\] collides with a stationary particle of mass\[2m\]. The speed of the system, will be:

    A) \[3v\]

    B) \[\frac{v}{2}\]

    C) \[v/3\]

    D) \[2v\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

According to conservation of momentum                 \[{{m}_{1}}{{v}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{v}_{2}}=({{m}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}})v\]                 \[mv+{{m}_{2}}\times 0=(m+2m)v\] So,          \[v=\frac{v}{3}\]
