    Solution :

    Using the relation                 \[L={{f}_{o}}+{{f}_{e}}\]and\[M=\frac{{{f}_{o}}}{{{f}_{e}}}\] (here:\[L=54\,\,cm\] and\[M=8\]) Hence   \[{{f}_{o}}+{{f}_{e}}=54\]                                            ... (1) and        \[\frac{{{f}_{o}}}{{{f}_{e}}}=8\] So           \[{{f}_{o}}=8{{f}_{e}}\]                                                  ... (2) Now from equation (1) and (2) we get\[8{{f}_{e}}+{{f}_{e}}=54\] So,          \[{{f}_{e}}=6\,\,cm\]and\[{{f}_{0}}=48\,\,cm\]
