NEET NEET SOLVED PAPER 2019

  • question_answer
Which of the following diatomic molecular species has only \[\pi \] bonds according to Molecular Orbital Theory?                              [NEET 5-5-2019]

    A) \[{{C}_{2}}\]

    B) \[B{{e}_{2}}\]

    C) \[{{O}_{2}}\]

    D) \[{{N}_{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    \[{{C}_{2}}=\sigma 1{{s}^{2}}\text{ }\sigma *\text{ }1{{s}^{2}}\text{ }\sigma 2{{s}^{2}}\text{ }\sigma *2{{s}^{2}}\text{ }\] \[\pi 2p_{x}^{2}\,\pi 2p_{y}^{2}\] 12 \[{{e}^{-}}\] has only \[\pi \] bonds according to M.O.T. In \[{{C}_{2}}\]molecule, only \[\pi \]electron occupied the bonding molecular orbital.
