The polarity of the capacitor in the situation described by Fig.

    A)  Plate A and plate B both positive

    B)  Plate A negative and plate B positive

    C)  Plate A positive and plate B negative

    D)  Plate A and plate B both negative

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The polarity of plate A will be positive with respect to plate S in the capacitor. Here, the understanding of Lenzs rule is assessed. The polarity nature of two plate will be decided on the basis of direction of flow of induced emf/current which opposes the cause (i.e., arrival of magnets). So, north polarity develops when viewed from the left hand side magnet whose north pole is arriving towards loop. North polarity develops when direction of flow of current is anti-clockwise when viewed from the left hand magnets. This make plate A positive and plate B negative.
