Upon amniocentesis of a pregnant woman, it is found that the embryo contains both, Barr body and F-body. The syndrome likely to be associated with the embryo is:

    A)  Edwards syndrome

    B)  Downs syndrome

    C)  Klinefelters syndrome

    D)  Pataus syndrome

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Barr body is one X chromosome which become non-functional during early development of female. This was described by Lyon and is called Lyons hypothesis. Number of Barr body is one less than the X chromosomes present. F-body is related with Y-chromosomes. F-body is equal to number of Y-chromosomes. In the case given in the question, the embryo contains one Barr body and one F-Body which corresponds to XXY. XXY is related to Klinefelters syndrome.
