When two sound waves travel in the same direction in a medium, the displacements of a particle located at \['x'\] at time \['t'\] is given by:                 \[{{y}_{1}}=00.5\,\,\cos \,\,(0.50\,\pi x-100\pi t)\]                 \[{{y}_{2}}=0.05\,\,\cos \,\,(0.46\,\,\pi x-92\pi t)\]                 Where \[{{y}_{1}},{{y}_{2}}\] and \[x\] are in meters and t in seconds. The speed of sound in the medium is:                  JEE Main Online Paper (Held On 09 April 2013)

    A) 92 m/s

    B) 200 m/s

    C) 100 m/s

    D) 332 m/s

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[{{v}_{1}}=\frac{{{\omega }_{1}}}{{{k}_{1}}}=\frac{100\,\pi }{0.50\pi }=200\,m/s\]                 \[{{v}_{2}}=\frac{{{\omega }_{2}}}{{{k}_{2}}}=\frac{92\,\pi }{0.46\,\pi }=200\,m/s\]                 As, both the waves moves with the same speed, so the speed of resultant wave should be 200 m/s.
