Suppose, we split a spherical surface into two parts by a circular loop. Now, a bar magnet is placed near the spherical system as shown in the figure. Through which of the two parts is the magnitude of the magnetic flux larger?

    A)  Part I

    B)  Part II

    C)  The magnitude of the flux is same for both

    D)  Cannot be predicted without more information about magnetic field

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The magnetic flux associated with a closed loop is zero. Thus, magnetic flux through parts I and II is zero. i.e., \[\text{o}{{\text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{ }}_{I}}+\text{o}{{\text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{ }}_{II}}=0\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[\text{o}{{\text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{ }}_{I}}=-\text{o}{{\text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{ }}_{II}}\] or \[|\text{o }\!\!|\!\!\text{ }|=|\text{o}{{\text{ }\!\!|\!\!\text{ }}_{II}}|\] So, the magnitude of flux through both parts I and II must be equal.
