Hyperosmotic urine secretion depends upon the

    A)  width of Bowmans capsule

    B)  length of loop of Henie

    C)  length of proscimal convoluted tubules

    D)  length of distle convoluted tubule

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The ability of concentrate urine is the maximum amount of solute that can be excreted within a volumne of urine. Concentration of solutes in urine depends on the length of loop of Henie, i.e. the longer the more concentrated is urine. Fluid entering the descending limb of the loop of Henie is hypoosmptic due to the movement of solutes out of the proximal tubule. Because water, but not  \[\text{N}{{\text{a}}^{\text{+}}}\] is reabsbrbed in the descending limb, the fluid in the loop of Henie becomes hyperpsmotic. As the filtrate moves through the ascending limb, \[\text{N}{{\text{a}}^{\text{+}}}\] and \[\text{C}{{\text{l}}^{-}}\](but not water) move out of the lumen, so that the filtrate again becomes hypoosmotic and the surrounding interstitial fluid becomes hyperosmotic.
