     Brown colour of \[\text{HN}{{\text{O}}_{\text{3}}}\]is due to the presence of \[\text{N}{{\text{O}}_{2}},\]which is formed by its decomposition. \[4HN{{O}_{3}}\xrightarrow{\text{Sunlight}}\underset{\text{brown}}{\mathop{4N{{O}_{2}}+}}\,\]\[\text{2}{{\text{H}}_{\text{2}}}\text{O}\,\text{+}\,{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\] When air is passed, the equilibrium shirts towards left hand side and brown colour is removed.
