The cardiac pace maker in a patient fails to function normally. The doctors find that an artificial pace maker is to be grafted in him. It is likely that it will be grafted at the site of

    A)  atrioventricular bundle

    B)  Plirkinje system

    C)  sinuatrial node

    D)  atrioventricular node

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The pace-maker creates the rhythmical impulse normally made by SA (sinuatrial) -node. Hence, it is implanted at the site of SA Node to mimic the action and to regulate the heart-beat. SA node is found in the upper part of the right atrium of the heart. It is a specialized bundle of neurons (nerve cells). Atrio-ventricular node (AV node) is also called pace-setter. It lies in the right atrium. It conducts cardiac impulses to the muscles of the ventricles through bundle of His. Bundle of His is also called AV bundle. It arises from AV node, descends in the inter ventricular septum and divides into two branches which supply the wall of vertricle by a network of fine fibres called Purkinje fibres.
