    Fight and flight hormone is

    A)  adrenaline

    B)  thyroxine

    C)  ADH

    D)  oxytocin

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Adrenaline (epinephrine) is secreted at the time of emergency, hence, it is called emergency hormone or fight, fright and flight hormone. Epinephrine has a greater effect on cardiac activity than norepinephrine and causes only weak constriction of the blood vessels of the muscles in comparison with a much stronger constriction that results from norepinephrine. Thyroxin is synthesized by attaching iodine to  the amino acid tyrosine. The functions of thyroxin are regulation of basal metabolic rate, stimulation of protein synthesis and help in metamorphosis of tadpole. Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH) or vasopressin increases the reabsorption of water in distal convoluted tubule, collecting tubules and collecting ducts of nephrons of kidneys. Involuntary muscles in the walls of intestine, gall bladder, urinary bladder and blood vessels are stimulated to contract by ADH. Oxytocin promotes contraction of the uterine muscles and contraction of the myoepithelial cells of the lactating breast squeezing milk into the large ducts behind the nipple.
