    Lowest melting point chloride is:

    A) \[\text{LiCl}\]

    B)  \[\text{NaCl}\]

    C) \[\text{KCl}\]

    D) \[\text{CsCl}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Alkali metal halides have high melting point. The melting points of alkali metal chloride decreases from NaCI to CsCl. (except Li). \[\underset{\text{833}\,\text{K}}{\mathop{\text{LiCl}}}\,\,\,\underset{\text{1081}\,\text{K}}{\mathop{\,\,\text{NaCl}\,}}\,\,\underset{\text{1043}\,\text{K}}{\mathop{\,\,\text{KCl}}}\,\,\underset{\text{990}\,\text{K}}{\mathop{\,\,\,\text{RbCl}}}\,\,\underset{\text{918}\,\text{K}}{\mathop{\,\,\text{CsCl}}}\,\]  So, NaCI has highest melting point and CsCl has lowest melting point.
