Bulk of histone proteins synthesized in:

    A)  \[{{G}_{1}}-\]phase

    B) \[{{G}_{2}}-\] phase

    C)  S-phase

    D) \[{{G}_{0}}-\]phase

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Howard and Pelc (1953) have divided cell cycle into four phases or stages i.e., \[{{\text{G}}_{\text{1}}}\text{,S,}{{\text{G}}_{\text{2}}}\] and M-phase. The \[{{\text{G}}_{\text{1}}}-\]phase, S phase and \[{{\text{G}}_{\text{2}}}-\]phase are combined to form the interphase. \[{{G}_{1}}-\]Phase: It involves transcription of t-RNA, m-RNA and r-RNA synthesis of regulatory proteins, enzymes necessary for DNA synthesis, tubulin and other mitotic proteins. The \[{{\text{G}}_{1}}-\]phase where differentiated somatic cell arrested is called \[{{\text{G}}_{0}}-\]Phase. S-Phase: During S-phase replication of DNA and synthesis of histone proteins occur. \[{{\text{G}}_{2}}-\]Phase: Synthesis of RNA and proteins continue which are required for cell growth.
