Acid rain is due to the pollution by:

    A)  \[\text{C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]

    B) \[S{{O}_{2}}\]and \[N{{O}_{2}}\]

    C)  dust particles

    D)  automobiles

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Acid rain is the rainfall and other forms of precipitation with a pH of less than 5 (i.e., acidic). It is caused by large scale emission of acidic gases into the atmosphere from thermal power plants, industries and automobiles, common ones are\[\text{S}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\text{,}\,\text{N}{{\text{O}}_{\text{x}}}\](nitrogen oxides),  volatile organic carbons (VOCs) and hydrogen chloride. \[\text{S}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]and \[\text{N}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]get combine with water drops forming sulphuric acid and nitric acid respectively. Such acid droplets falls on the earth as acid rain and destroys plants, soil, aquatic flora and fauna and even the monuments, statues etc. \[\text{C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]has no role in acid rain.
