    A)  Raphano brassica

    B)  Triticale

    C)  Pomato

    D)  None of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Allopolyploid species/individuals have two or more distinct genomes and each genome is ordinarily present in two copies. Many allopolyploids have been produced in nature, some of which have succeeded as crops, e.g., Wheat, oats, tobacco etc. Triticale is a man-made allopolyploid cereal crop. It was produced by hybridising, an allotetraploid wheat (Triticum turgidum) with rye (Secale cereale-a. diploid species). The chromosome number of the resulting\[{{\text{F}}_{\text{1}}}\]as doubled to produce Triticale. It is a new improved crop variety having characters of both, rye and wheat. It is not suitable for bread making due to its low glutein content. It is now grown all over the world, mainly in Russia. Raphanobrassica (a tetraploid with 36 chromosomes), is a hybrid produced by karpechenko (1927) in Russia as a result of cross between radish (Raphanus) and cabbage (Brassica), each with 9 chromosomes. Pomato is a somatic hybrid between tomato and potato. It is an example of intergeneric hybrid    produced    through    somatic hybridization.
