Immunoglobin found abundantly in serum is:

    A)  IgM

    B)  IgA

    C)  IgN

    D)  IgG

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

IgG antibodies account for about 80% of all antibodies in serum. IgG antibodies protect against circulating bacteria and viruses, neutralize bacterial toxins triggers the complement system and when bound to antigens enhance the effectiveness of phagocytic cells. IgM antibodies make up 5- 10% of antibodies in serum. It is the predominant type of antibody involved in the response to the ABO blood group antigens on the surface of RBCs. IgA accounts for only about 10-15% of the antibodies in serum. The most effective form of IgA is a dimer called, secretory IgA. The main function of secretory IgA is probably to prevent the attachment of pathogens particularly viruses and certain bacteria to mucosal surfaces.
