Which type of kidneys are found in amphibians?

    A)  Holonephric

    B)  Mesonephric

    C)  Pronephric

    D)  Metanephric

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Development and structural differences in the nephric tubules that arise within the nephric ridge inspired a view of kidney formation known as tripartite concept. (i) Pronephridia: Tubules that appear within  the anterior part of the nephric ridge are called pronephric tubules which join to form a common pronephric duct. The pronephric tubules become associated with glomeruli to form functional kidneys in larval cyclostomes, some adult fishes and most lower vertebrates. (ii) Mesonephridia :    Tubules   of mesonephric kidney arise in the middle of nephric ridge. The mesonephrose usually becomes functional in the embryo but persists in adults of fishes and Amphibia. (iii) Metanephridia: The formation of metanephric duct as ureteric diverticulum at the base of the pre existing mesonephric duct is characteristic feature. Morphologists take a view emphasize that the three types of kidney arise as parts of one organ the holonephros.
